Job Description
Elluminates Software Corporation is looking for a full-time Deputy Operations Manager.   This position is in support of the Department of State (DOS) as a part of the Vanguard 2.2.1 contract. The Vanguard 2.2.1 program provides transparent, interconnected systems and security support for the Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) program. The IRM program enables the Department of State to successfully carry out its foreign policy mission by providing enterprise architecture design, engineering, operations and maintenance support services for data center services, desktop computers, servers, networks, firewalls, voice and data communications and other unique enterprise applications. 

Duties and Responsibilities
The position is a hands-on leadership role, which includes technical work in addition to working with the Operations Manager on overall Operations Management and staff administration.  The Deputy Operations Manager will assist in the execution of the Operations Manager’s duties, as well as step into the manager's role if necessary.  

The team’s primary technical role and this position’s will include:
  • Administration of a global VMware virtual infrastructure environment
  • ESX Administration and engineering principles
  • Incorporate security principles and remediations into an enterprise environment
  • Provide operational engineering support to enterprise-level virtual infrastructure solutions and deployments
  • Participate in on-call after-hours escalation responsibilities, supporting after-hours/weekends/holidays/shutdowns.
  • Update system and process documentation, user guides, diagrams and SOPs as needed.

Security aspects, including:
  • Prioritize Security Vulnerability issues, such as TLS
  • Represent VGE on security meetings and ongoing
    review of Operational Posture
  • Internal security dashboard monitoring
  • Remediation when can, delegation to sub-teams when needed
  • Point Person on special/critical efforts, such as LOG4J
  • Log aggregation experience desirable, but not required
 
Monitoring
  • Coordinate with other support teams on monitoring issues
  • Work with monitoring teams, such as SCCM, for operational monitoring/alerting posture
  • Liaison with special efforts, such as implementation of new tools

Staff Management
  • Although not a direct manager, coordinate with Operations Manager on various staff organizational/management roles
  • Secondary on Operations Manager meetings (such as Operational reviews)
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager on Event Handling, especially for longer duration events and crisis
  • Backup role for Customers and Escalations when Operations Manager is out of office
     
Required Qualifications
  • VMWare and vSphere administration, including design, integration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge or Training on VMware and ESX 7.0+ deployment, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Experience with security analysis and remediations
  • Experience leading system integration projects as the technical lead.
  • Experience working with customers to capture/document requirements.
  • Experience in leadership roles within a team environment
  • Excellent communications and customer management skills
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Foster a positive work environment with colleagues, encourage teamwork and provide clear communications with staff and customers
  • Adaptability to high-paced environment and changing priorities/needs

Desired Qualifications
  • Active Directory experience, particularly in a large environment.
  • Strong scripting skills.
  • LAN/WAN networking experience. 
  • Splunk or other logging/monitoring platforms
  • Ability to apply ITIL v3 Foundation concepts within the workplace.
  • Military Experience is desired but not required.

Years of Experience and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in an information technology or related field or 10 years of progressive, related experience.
  • Knowledge with VMware and ESX 7.0+ deployment, configuration, and maintenance
